The trio of instant photographs, Bonjour, Hi, was specifically created for the [UN]PROMPTU Artistic Collective’s current exhibition Annotate This! in response to the question “What does language as aesthetic mean to you?” These images are part of a continuing exploration of fragmented words which contain familiar expressions that become ironic and ambiguous through weathering, cropping and the destruction of text. Words communicate the instructions and greetings, from a metallic door handle text that reads “Push”, to the hand-painted “Bon Jour”, and the ominous “HI” with embroiled anger directed at the state of Texas.
