Knick Knack, 2 minutes and 15 seconds, 16mm to 2K, silent, 2020

Knick Knack shows a collection of oddities from the artist’s family collection which are observed through a playful pseudo-scientific lens. Shot on black and white 16mm, these curiosities are displayed, magnified, revealed, pushed and swatted. Represented throughout the piece are tin toy soldiers, stones from the beaches of Dieppe, a wooden fish, an SX-70 polaroid and camera lens (which is also represented within the polaroid). Inspired by Derek Jenkins’ film and installation Contents (2018), Knick Knack similarly questions the memories tied to objects and considers the possibility of new meanings.
