Right Up Your Alley is a series of black and white images based on the transitional spaces of alleyways. Presented in a photobook format, this exploration focuses on the unguarded nature of the backstreets that are lined with garages and sheds and lack a formal appearance. With the on-going gentrification, downtown Toronto, in combination with the rising costs of family homes this city is following the same fate of many post-industrial cities in North America. Homogeneity supplants the organic nature of neighbourhoods that are characterized by unique structures, public spaces and impromptu art. This observation of alleyways is focused on the similarities between buildings, the irony found within these relationships and the personality of the occupants. As the physical environments change, these images become an artifact of their moment in time.
